Any recommendations for cheap but cool hostels in Cairo?

there are a few budget hotels in the city center that host backpackers. You can check out the Rough Guide to Egypt for details or search the web for the international youth hostel contacts.

One of them is international youth hostel in Manyal district in Cairo, most recommended one.

Pension Roma and Dina ... both are good, similar location (close to Ataba metro). Dina has a younger atmosphere with dorms, Pension Roma is more like a budget hotel for elder couples.

WiFi in Dina seems to be more stable.

We stayed in the Pension Roma and really liked it. Well located, about 4 blocks from the Egyptian Museum, comfortable, clean room, nice common room, simple but free breakfast. They lined us up with an excellent taxi driver.
