bwindi np gorilla track

hi guys
in a few days i m going to do the gorilla track at bwindi.
i m backpacking so i dont wanna bring too many stuff on my shoulders
my question is: are shoesturtleneck a MUST?
i mean, can i do the excursion using my normal trekking shoes which dont have a long neck?

Finding the gorillas can involve scrambling about on very steep slopes, wet & muddy underfoot, in tangled and prickly vegetation. But there is no rule (afaik) about footwear, you can wear what you like.
