Bus from Entebbe to Masaka?Country forums / Africa / Uganda
Hi, all-- I may need to be in Masaka for a few days this autumn, and I'm just starting to research my transit options. I gather that I can get from Kampala to Masaka fairly easily by Post Bus, but is there any bus service heading southwest direct from Entebbe? I'm not opposed to going into the city, and may well wind up spending the night there anyhow, depending on when my flight (not yet booked) arrives, but if I can head in the right direction straight away, I'd prefer to do that. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!
Hi! I very much doubt you'll find a direct ride between Entebbe and Masaka (although someone could prove me wrong). If you're coming from the airport, first off you'll have to get a 'special hire' (basically a private taxis- bargain hard on the price!) to the closest taxis park (about a mile away) where there are lots of mini bus taxis (shared) to take you into Kampala. From Kampala there are tonnes of buses (big coaches from the bus park) or taxis from the New Park direct to Masaka. If you're staying in Masaka a while, check out the cafe at Uganda Childcare (round the back of Hotel Brovad). The taxis parks are hugely daunting if you've never been before but the people who work there are really helpful to do ask if you get lost! Good luck. | 1
Yep, I agree. No direct busses from Entebbe to Masaka. You have to transit through Kampala as described. Stay a couple of nights - there's lots more to do than there is in Masaka. | 2
Thanks to you both for the advice; you confirm what I'd already expected. I'll be heading to Masaka for work rather than fun, but will probably spend at least 24 hours in Kampala at either end of the trip, either way. Seems like an agreeable city. My destination after Masaka is probably going to be Mbale, or somewhere else pretty far to the East, so I'll have to head through the capital again anyhow. | 3
I lived in Mbale for a year and it's another very agreeable Ugandan town. If you go, please tell John and Patrick, the bar staff at the Sunrise Inn and Mt Elgon Hotel respectively, Andrew from CARE says hello. Sipi Falls, on the slopes of Mt Elgon, is a great place to hang out for a few days. Stay at the Crow's Nest for a great view of the Falls. | 4
