Arusha daytrips

Country forums / Africa / Tanzania

I have one or two days in Arusha before a Kili trek and need suggestions on one-day tours in and around Arusha. What's best? Cultural tourism, Arusha National Park, a city tour, something else? And which tour providers do you recommend?

I'll have just stepped off a plane from North America and would like to have something pre-arranged. I frankly won't have the time or inclination to try and cobble something complex together on the spot.

If you are not planning to go to any other national park, Arusha NP would be the choice, as it has an absolutely lovely landscape rich in variation with craters, swamps, lakes sometimes fringed with flamingoes. As there are no big predators, most of the animals are totally relaxed and easy to be found. It should be possible to arrange a trip with one of the tour operators beforehand. Have a nice trip.

I join Makonde on Arusha N.P. It's much different than the other big parks, and offers a different variety of landscape and nature. The advantage is that you can organize a walking safari INSIDE the park, and get really close to many of the wildlife. I loved it. And it's much less crowded.
