Anyone been to Maintirano (Madagascar)

Hi all,

I'm contemplating spending most of my vacation in Madagascar doing sea turtle surveys on the Barren Islands off the coast of Maintirano. Has anyone been to that area- and what is there to do nearby? It doesn't make the LP at all. It will be the rainy season, so I won't be able to travel far.

According to the latest Bradt guide, the road from Maintirano towards Tana has now been tarmacked, so you should be able to get out to the special reserve at Ambohijanahary even in the rainy season. Check that it's open to visitors before setting off, as previously there were no visitor services due (in part) to inaccessibility.
