accra - hostel with best atmosphere (party, packpackers, ambient)Country forums / Africa / Ghana
Hi I will be in Accra in October. I need advise where to stay to have good time there. I ma looking for hostel with good, open atmosphere, good entertainment / party, full of other backpackers, located just in the moddle of the aaction, but preferably just next to the beacg as well.
There is not really a hostel like that in Accra. Akuma village (apparently now called Magic Beach Resort) used to be a party spot as far as hostels go, but they have seriously rebranded themselves: http://magicbeachresort.com/ Your best bet for something of that sort is big milly's in kokrobite http://www.bigmilly.com/ or green turtle near dixcove and akwidaa http://greenturtlelodge.com/ Both of those places are on the beach, but they are outside of accra, dixcove being about 6 hours away, and kokrobite an hour and a half or so. I am a BIG fan of green turtle (see here: http://philintheblank.net/2010/09/03/the-best-beach-in-ghana/) I would highly recommend couchsurfing accra, you will discover some great spots and get a better understanding of the city. Travelers that stay in osu without venturing out are missing some of the best food, nightlife and general hangouts. Have fun on your trip :) Edited by: philpaol Edited by: philpaol | 1
Hey Phil - just been reading your post and started finding out more about couchsurfing. What an awesome concept. Am going to try it out sometime.. We ditto your recommendation for Green Turtle, guys are fantastic over there. | 2
I have to agree with phil for what you are looking for the Magic Phoenix Resort in Accra is your best bet. As for a Hostel Check out Pink Hostel owned by my partner in Accra http://www.pinkhostel.com.gh/ . Stumble Inn related to the poster above is a nice place to stay near Cape Coast. If you are looking for more places outside of Accra take a look at my website, I still have not completed my list but it will get you started www.greenbugadventures.com/about-2/lodging | 3
I would head to Ada Foah for a few days as well. There area a couple small beach resorts at the mouth of the Volta. I think they are around 15-20 Cedi a night. You can either walk through the Villages. That takes about 30 minutes and is wonderful or you can Talk to Martin who runs a boat service to the resorts and into the Volta. There is also a Resort called Cocobeach. Its in Ada Foah. They usually have busy weekends with music and locals. I've been to this area about 10 times and each time I see some pack of travelers wondering around. My experience in General traveling Ghana is that there are not many travelers. I have been able to travel for weeks without seeing another Obruni. | 4
