4 DAYS IN NAIROBICountry forums / Africa / Kenya
Hi everyone, I am a male solo traveller going to be in Nairobi for 4 days Dec 1st-5th and need all the advice I can get. Accommodation: I usual stay in hostels but I am aware of how dangerous Nairobi can be particularly at night so any suggestions on reasonably cheap but safe/well located accommodation would be great! Activities: There are certain things such a Carnivore and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust/Nairobi Nat Park but does anyone know of a good tour company who could take me to visit a Maasai Community for a day or even two? And is Lake Naivasha worth a visit? As mentioned...all and any advice welcome!
I like to stay in the city centre, at either the Terminal or the Downtown. They are just a few doors apart on Moktar Daddah Street and about the cheapest you'll get in this part of town, on the 'right' side of Tom Mboya St. They are both pretty basic and can be noisy -especially at the weekend, but they have hot water and are safe places to stay. The Downtown is a bit nicer - but the Terminal has a bar, which is handy! The shopping centre across the road has a supermarket & guarded cash points and there's a couple of places to eat. The city centre is fine to walk around in daylight, and far less dodgy than it used to be, but I'd still take a taxi after dark. If you'd rather stay out of town, there are some backpacker places in the suburbs such as Wildebeest Camp and Milimani Backpackers - I haven't stayed at these, but presumably they can arrange tours etc. Don't know if Nelson is still at the Terminal, but if so, he runs a small tour company and is very helpful. | 1

Hi, I would advice you stay at Miti Mingi Guest House in Westlands, affordable, clean and safe. If you are in Nairobi for just a day or two, Kenya Comfort Hotel will be even safe and convenient since it is located right in the City Center. Sheldrick's Elephant Orphanage, Girraffe Center and if time allows Bomas of Kenya. General city tour is also advised. Dinner at Carnivore has always been rewarding, I highly recommend. Naivasha has some great attractions, like Ela Mare a dn a boat trip to Crescent Island. Naivasha and Masai Mara combined I recommend two to three nights. Masai Mara has a lot to see/ discover, if doing a budget safaris expect at-least to pay around $300 per day all inclusive, luxury lodge safaris should be from $450 all inclusive per day. Luxury trips are run by the likes of Somak Safaris, Kobo, Pollmans etc, budget safaris try www.royalprivatesafaris.com or wwwsafrseekers.co.ke, good luck P. | 4
