3 day Gorilla Trek for 950$Country forums / Africa / Uganda
I have been quoted 950$ pp 4 people, for a 3 day trek in November including a 350$ permit. It's a basic trip with two nights staying in Buhoma Thanks
Hello Hestepik, I do believe this is excessive. If you are a party of 4 people you should be able to get it considerably cheaper than that, especially as it is low season. Please contact jason@amagaratours.com, I am sure he will give you a more competitive price. In fact, I know he will. I am currently looking at a 3 day tour in high season, i will be alone, and he quoted me a price of $825. He said the price would be much cheaper if I could find other people who would like to go at the same time. Good luck, Tim | 1
Thanks Tim, I will give it a try | 2

If planning basic accommodation in Buhoma, and just Kampala/Entebbe - Bwindi and back, more or less, shouldn't require more than about $650 a head with permits. Could rent a 4WD out of Kampala for 3-4 days with driver - alphacar worked very well for us - sound vehicle and driver, then staying somewhere like Buhoma Community - make sure accommodation is by gate of access to group you are assigned, and my advice is to stay as locally as possible to guarantee no last minute hitches - i.e. walking distance or short drive from park gate. Perhaps if you have 6 - 7 days, could take in Queen Elizabeth too. | 4
Just to add, the 3 days would of course be: day 1 to get out there. Day 2 gorilla trek. Day 3, return. | 5
Do you have a group of 4. I'm a group of two possibly looking to join a group. To save on cost I am trying to find a tour operator to start my program from either Kisoro or Kabale. I'm currently in Rwanda and would like to visit the gorillas in the next 10 to 14 days. Cheers, Charlie | 6
Hi There, If you are up for it, you can save money by organizing it yourself. I called Uganda Government Wildlife Office and booked permits and paid for them when I got to Kampala. This was 2006 but I also could have sent a wire transfer from my bank. I then took the once daily bus from Kampala to the town before Bwindi which probably cost about 10USD the bus was comfortable enough and I rather enjoyed the people I met-it was long maybe 9 hours and not more than two stops that allowed time for relieving oneself in a nearby field. From there, the man I sat next to on the bus arranged for a friend with a car to take us and the other two tourists the rest of the way for about 20USD or you may be able to catch a ride with the military if they happen to be passing by or walk if you do not have too much stuff. I stayed at the community lodging which with meals was probably less than 20USD per night. I stayed for a while and did some bird walks as the area is quite pretty. | 7
Thanks for all the replies. I have booked with Amagara tours for 585$, which to me appears to be a good price with a good tour company. | 8
Hestepik2, how and when are you going to pay US $ 585 to Amagara ? I am too in touch with him for gorilla trek in November from Kabale. | 9

Hestepik2, I might see you on 26 Nov :) but do you think I can pay to Amagara tours in Kigali or before that ? | 11
