Tanzania

Hi there,
I am a UK citizen. Is it possible to get a tanzanian visa on arrival at Dar Es Salaam airport. I only have 18 days left til i travel, so dont want to risk putting my passport in the post and not getting it back.

With the husband's endowment proceeds burning a hole in my pocket I booked us a 2 week trip to Zanzibar at Christmas. What is there to do there? And is it feasible to do a safari on the mainland?

I'm looking for really inexpensive flights from Tanzania to UK airport, or Morocco (where easyjet flies to the UK for under £50), or Brussels. Anyone with any ideas other than the usual travel search engines would be appreciated. Desparate to find a bargain for end of July depature, early August return.

just back from Tanzania and found that my more than 4 digit pin doesn't work in some of the older ATMs. Barclays was the only ATM I was able to use... thought others might find this useful!!

When tipping guilds porters etc, is it better to pay them in Tanz shillings or US $( trying to keep minumin carrying to much US$ on me)

I had a look at a lot of the pages on Tanzania and didn't an answer. Apologies if I missed it.

I am considering going to Tanzania and Zanzibar for 2 weeks in total in late October - beg of November. How safe is it for me to do this on my own? Are there areas to avoid or is it safe (or unsafe) to even consider it?

I haven't started any of the itinerary planning yet as I would like to have you guys opinion.

OK, I'm REALLY confused at the moment. I'm trying to work out how much it will be to purchase a visa for Tanzania whilst still in Australia. LP and Rough Guides don't mention Australia at all, only the UK & US. Our government website refuses to give any specific information, instead sending you on a wild goose chase between departments (typical). Roy's Tours says that Australians don't need a visa to enter the country (or moreso, has a list of countries that need visas, and Aust is not among…
