Senior Couple is looking for a nice quite beach hotel/resort spot to rest up in for 6 days. Would be nice if we could walk to restaurants etc. but not imperative. Price range should be between US$ 150 and $225 per night with at least breakfast included. I have read that the best beaches are the north. Any comments about that?
How about the Chavda Hotel in Stone Town. Have they finished their remodeling? Is it nice? Or should I look elsewhere for a 2 or 3 nights. Is Stone town worth three nights and three days.

Matemwe Beach Guesthouse is a quiet, small-ish resort. Their website is: http://www.matemwebeach.com/matemwe-01.htm and is within your price range. I found it quite relaxing.
I did not find Stone Town to be worth that much time. I am glad I went, and wouldn't want to miss it altogether, but I was, frankly, a little bored after the first 24 hours. You can see most of its sights in one day and the whole "wandering back alleys" only lasted me half a day. We did enjoy people watching over meals, but that only takes you so far.
