We will be in zanzibar mid february we are looking for a quiet clean bungalow on a swimming beach . Does anybody have any recommendations and price ranges. thanks a lot

Hey -
so we stayed in quite a few places in Zanzibar, and bar none, the bestest, with the bestest swimmings beach was Pongwe.
It's pricey ( i think $150 or so per night) but beautiful, lush, quiet, and with sand and swimmable.
you wont be disappointed.
cheers + have a great trip

Hello,
Recently I have heard of a great place that has just opened in Paje, Zanzibar. It is called dhow inn and their site is http://www.dhowinn.com. They are on a white beach, have a real chef and offer free WiFi intenet, which I think is a first.
Cheers and hope it helps.

I stayed at Twisted Palm bungalows in Bwejuu (east cost) this August - quiet, friendly and unpretentious. $35 the room. Food maybe not the best, but you can shop around up and down the beach at the other places...
And whether you pay $35 or $1000, it's all the same beach :-)
For swimming, the north-coast beaches (Nungwi or Kendwa) are better as the water there is deep enough to swim even at low tide, while on the east coast you can only swim at high tide.

I stayed at Mtoni Marine, nr Stone Town for a couple of nights, beach was fab and had a really nice pool too, and then went to Shooting Star at Kiwengwa Beach, beach was stunning and had an infity pool, accomodation was a cottage on the beach with air con and mozzie nets! Food was amazing!
Both really cheap and fantastic accomodation, better than any large hotel!

Hi,
I have just returned from Zanzibar and stayed at by far the best beach on the island, Michamvi Pingwe. It's a bit out of the way and can be expensive to get to, taxi from Stone Town $30 - $40, or get the dalla dalla either 342 (Bwejuu) or 340 (Michamvi) from the Stone Town bus station.
Stay at Michamvi Bungalows, rates according to your negotiating skills! but no more than $40 a night. They have 2 bungalows and will definately look after you. Mr Ilyas is the manager and with Alex the fisherman and chef you will certainly feel 5. Although the tide goes out at low tide there are beautiful lagoons perfect for swimming, the real 5 hotel (Karafuu) next door even zapps the jelly fish for safe swimming! The snorkling there is also amazing, especially if Alex takes you for a guided tour. If you go say Hello from Alan & Melissa :-), if you don't then as Mr T would say, you're a crazy fool!
