Are you all ready in Tanzania? or have you booked your flight yet?Las year i was in Arusha though not in early Jan but the city was colorful as people just come from Christmas and new year moods. You can reach to any local operator and they will help you organise solo trip for you , do not miss the Seregenti and Ngorongoro crater if time allows you.

Why don't you check with swap groups which departs every single day to National Parks for safaris. I can send you the direction of where you can find the their office when you are in Arusha town.
