Hi guys i am going to be one month in Tanzania.
As i was never in safari stuff i am full of doubts :

How many NP can you see in 3 weeks and which ones do you recommend me? It would be nice to see something in every corner of the country - not just the north - but i dont know which to choose or if this is possible (i like to travel by road , not plane)

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated !! Thanks !!

Usually how many days last a safari? Is there a rule of thumb?

Hello,

Normally this all depends on your interests like whcih kind of animals are on your veiwing list?, which kind of accommodation you prefer to use during safari, what is your budget?.

But if you wish you do safari in different parks and you don't like to travel for long hour hours on the roads its better you start with northern circuit because all parks a not far from one another like

Ngorongoro to Serengeti

Serengeti to Manyara

Maranyara to Tarangire

Tarangire to Arusha National Park

Then you can move towards the southern circuit and start with :

Selous to Mikumi National Park

Mikumi to Udzungwa

Udzungwa to Ruaha National park

ANd between each park you can visit historical sites either in Northern circuit or Southern circuit.

You can see as many parks as you like - or rather, as many as you can afford! You only need to spend a couple of days in each, or even just one day in the smaller parks such as Manyara.

As they can work out to be quite/very expensive, I would start with one safari to see how you enjoy it. Perhaps a 3-4 day safari visiting Serengeti & Ngorongoro for starters.

You may find (as I do) that it's all very lovely seeing the animals in the wild, but spending most of your time sitting in a vehicle and straining your eyes to spot them can get a bit tiring and repetitive after a couple of days.

On the other hand, as many others find, you may absolutely love it and want to do it all again and again. If so, it's easy enough to arrange more safaris as you go.

Vickbruxe has given you a good list of parks to look at - I'll add Saadani, on the coast north of Dar and the only NP that borders the sea.

I have no recent experience of safaris in the north, but you should be able to get a cheaper deal if you wait until you get there and book in Arusha rather than online.

Get to Arusha and start your trip with local based company !
Good thing buses in Tanzania can take you to almost all locations in Tz.
Even Mikumi,Saadani Np buses from DSM do exist!
Cheers
