A friend and I (one American male and one Australian female) are arriving in JRO mid-day on Tuesday the 9th and hoping to go on safari around the Ngorongoro crater for two days on October 10th and 11th. Does anyone have any reccomendations about safari companies or where to stay? I know it is a brief time but we are making do with what we have and are hoping to see some of the natural beauty and wildlife in Tanzania. Also, we are looking for other people interested in joining our group to help keep the costs down. If anyone has tried to something similar, has any advice or would like to join, send me a message.
Thanks!

Hi! I did a 5 days safari using Sunny's and had an AMAZING time. Specially with the guide, which was awsome, showing us loads of animals and also explaining about their behaviour. Our cook was also great, so i can recommend them so much.
Now, you have to pay attention because you say 2 days. Driving is crazy in Tanzania, from Arusha to Ngorongoro it take a loong time, so let´s say, you mention 2 days, your first day will be driving 4h from Arusha and then you can do a game drive in the afternoon and the next morning but then, you have to drive back in the afternoon, so in the reality, is it what you really want to do? Also, because the gate charges 50 Uss per person, but US$ 200 per car, so Ngorongoro is very expensive... Best would be if you had 3 days. I did Manyara, one afternoon, and following day went to Serengueti, VIA Ngorongoro, and last day we drove back from Serengueti for 3 hs, slept in Ngorongoro and next morning did the game drive and after 2 o'clock left to Arusha.
Take care and good choice!

Two days is possible but a very tight schedule. Unless you have your heart set specifically on Ngorongoro (which is truly amazing) you may have more quality experience going to Arusha National Park or Lake Manyara. You may even be able to get in a quick Maasai village tour. I know of two good companies that I have used, you can contact me if you need specifics. Whatever you decide, I know that you will have a great time.

I agree with #3 that Manyara may be better if you only have two days, it's closer to Arusha. However if you can extend it even a day Ngorongoro is worth it, sunrise is breathtaking - Manyara is great though and a little less crowded, though not much. Tarangire is great too.
We used www.bobbytours.com in Arusha and they were great - good price with decent vehicles and our guide was alot of fun and (mostly) knew it all ;)
The Outpost Lodge in Arusha is fabulous - excellent price, the food is great and there are plenty of places to chill in the garden with a Safari Lager. Great staff and management - highly recommend it. Have fun!
I stayed at Hotel Plantation, a very quiet and beautiful lodge pretty close to the crater. it was one of the nicest places I have slept in Tanzania, and the food was phenomenal.

I used Safari Makers and was very happy with them. The guide was flexible and knowledgeable (and had a great sense of humor), the cook was amazing, and the over-all service was very professional. They even helped us out with other things, like booking a cultural tour in a neighbouring town, and advising on bus lines and routes. http://www.safarimakers.com/
