All guests staying within National Parks in Tanzania will have to pay additional concession fees regardless of whether or not they have fully paid for their accommodation. In Ruaha NP yesterday TANAPA began issuing all arrivals at the Gate and Msembe airstrip with invoices for an across the board flat fee of $30pppd - this includes Residents, non residents adults and children. It is payable at your lodge or camp if you are staying within the Park. All arrivals must show their booking vouchers to prove which lodge/camp they are staying at. The concessions are more expensive in other Parks even up to $50pppd. Lodges and camps have been issued with a letter from the TANAPA DIRECTOR demanding the new concessions to be paid backdated to May 25, 2015. Most Lodge/camps were prepared for a July 1 start, but this took them by surprise!

Tanzania has some of the most high park fees in Africa. this will just add more to them.
it will keep the Backpackers out of the parks

Very sorry, what happened in Ruaha is a miracle. The fees are still the same and hikes are postponed until 2016. We were at TANAPA, noone knew about this. And the hike will be 10 USD pppd and not 30.

I'm very sorry to destroy your peace, but different to us small companies, backpackers are not the target of the government. Sorry for that.

Hi Johannes, That is not the case in Ruaha believe me. It is $30 and it is being implemented right now. It will be interesting to see what happens at the end of the month when concessions are due to be collected by Tanapa. They have also implemented a single entry permit making the 24 hour permit null and void. So anyone staying outside the Park must pay each time they go in and out regardless if it is within 24 hours of your purchase. This is impacting hugely on tour operators who place guests outside the Park.
