Hello Travelers,

I will be going to Tanzania beginning March and I am interested in visiting Mount Kilimanjaro. I do not intend o climbing all the way to the top, I would mostly like to visit the rain forests on the base and also climb a bit to the higher levels.

Since I will be backpacking alone, I am searching for something really simple and low cost(not these 2000 eur safaris!!)

Does anybody have any advice on where can I find such a tour?

Cheers :)

I would actually like just to make a 3-4 day climb in the Lemosho Route, until the Shia Plateau and then head back

Thank you this is helpful info. Do you know if there is this possibility of a short stay in the other routes?

There was a program of issuing "day passes" for the Marangu Route - from the park entrance up to Mandara Huts. This can be done over about 4-6 hours (with lunch at Mandara). From memory you usually took a park ranger rather than a guide. The park fees were charged - around 75% of the daily charge, but without the cost of the accommodation in the hut.
