Hey!

I am backpacking around Africa and after volunteering for one month in Mwanza, I am ready to go South and hit Malawi. Now, (I guess) the next stop would Mbeya.

Can't seem to be able to find any hostels / cheap accommodation online. Can anybody recommend me anything?

Also, since I haven't done a safari yet and heard that the southern circuit is way cheaper, do you any any recommendation when it comes to the Ruaha / Usungo Gaame Reserve? I am traveling on a "tight" budget and don't want to spend thousands of $ on a safari! If you know any good companies that would be lush!!

Andre

Karibuni Centre Hotel is very good and fairly cheap - a double room with breakfast cost 32000 Tsh last year. It's a bit out of town, one block back from the highway so nice and quiet, but a short matatu ride into town. Good restaurant, nice gardens, a couple of bars nearby (no alcohol in the centre).

If that's too much or you'd rather be in the centre, there's a decent hotel directly opposite the bus stand, I think their rooms started around 17000Tsh.

Personally I think that's a good thing, it's always nice to be able to see a room before deciding to stay, Places I look at on the hotel booking websites often seem to be all booked up months in advance anyway. Plus if they aren't paying to be on a website, they don't have to put up their prices to compensate.

I am sure most might have different opinions cause are subjected to their tight schedule

Well, I did say it was my opinion... and I would also suggest that tight schedules are not really compatible with an independent trip to most African countries!
