hey there,

I have heard that in Moshi the ATMs will work only with VISA Cards...however, I currently do only have a EC/Maestro Card since my credit card was recently lost. Are there any ATMs in Moshi that will give me cash using my Maestro card? If so, where do I find them?

quick help is very much appreciated since I will be arriving there tomorrow and I have limited cash with me.

thanks so much

ok, it's actually not that hard to find out since I just discovered that there's an online Maestro ATM finder available which will tell you that there is indeed ONE Maestro ATM machine in Moshi (Barclays on Mawenzi Rd)

I hope it is updated. My Volksbak/Raiffeisenbank Maestro worked until four weeks ago. Then it stopped. Problem is, that these banks cancelled the agreement with MasterCardin 2015. So even when the Maestro sign is still visible, it doesn't mean it will work. Just try. The banks give now a new card, called BasicCard. You have to load an certein amount and can use it one the ATMs. It is available for MasterCard or VISA, whatever you like.
If you have problems, I can try to help if you have online banking.

was there a fee to pay to use the Barclays atm ?.
as in Kenya and Uganda Barclays bank has a atm fee for overseas cards.
in Kenya it is Ksh399 per use.

well I took 400.000 TSH which translated to 155,xx € on my bank account if I remember correctly....so if there is a fee, it is not very expensive (can't say for sure because currency prices may have shifted in the meantime). Unless the bank will charge me the fee separately (which I don't think).

Yes there will be a fee - usually debited against your home bank account. As for whether MC Debit Cards work in Tanzania - well they did back in 2005/6/8/11/12. However there were some banks where I had to use my Visa Debit Card. Try the bank on SE corner of the Clock Tower roundabout - I think its CBRE (in Kahawa House). The NBC Bank ATM also usually accepted my cards.
For those who intend to visit Uganda I would suggest that you have both Visa and MC debit cards and the MC cards do (or did) have problems (back in 2012) - it was something to do with fees/commissions paid by Visa, but not by MC. It may have been fixed since then.

The fee is around 5 Euro and vary from bank to bank. At present I have big problems with this MC BasicCard, where you have to load the money in advance. (maybe it is what you call debit card). I can use it only at EXIM ATMS, at CRDB it crashes the system. But the charge is only Euro 2,50 per draw.
