Has anyone recently taken the train from Kigoma to Dodoma (or Dar, if the tracks are repaired)? I'm planning a trip from Burundi to Dar, and taking the train from Kigoma seems to make the most sense... Unless someone knows the Precision Air cost for a one-way Kigoma-Dar.
Thanks!

Kigoma to Dar with Precision Air cost c US$190 one way, or around 210,000 TShs. The plane was only half full - that is, it had fewer people on it than the average dalla dalla, so I guess it's not normally a problem getting a ticket except at special times.
Though the price may seem high, I reckon it's probably a bargain compared to the train, which is 37,000 TShs to Dodoma first class (26,000 TShs second class) - the train is grotty and appears very often to run late (I was nine hours late into Kigoma so arrived at 3 in the morning). The restaurant car/bar on the train was very full and quite unpleasant later on, the corridors were full of people without seats, the toilets were the squat down kind and there was no running water in 2nd class. The food wasn't up to much either. (The TAZARA line was much better - this isn't a general moan about African trains). And the flight is 6 or 7 times a week, the train just 4.
