Hiring a taxi in advance in Dar Es Salaam

Hi, everything is possible but why dd you choose for a hotel near airport if early morning you need to get to Ubungo ?? Why not book a hotel near Ubungo like Silver Paradise Hotel ?? And direct you friend to come for you there??
By the way you can schedule a ride with uber in DSM also the hotel can help with Taxi no worries just need to inform them in advance!

Thanks. We are both arriving at different times to the airport - if we go separately to Ubungo we both have to separately get a taxi from the airport which means additional costs.

I won't have a Tanzanian sim card (unless you can pick one up in the airport) so might not be able to use Uber properly.

Where are you staying near the airport? The Greenlight? Worth going to, spent quite some time here for work (at the airport) and it was a friendly place!

I was going to stay at Kiota Jungle Homestay, but I'll check out the Greenlight.

Sim cards Are available at the airport ,you will only be asked for a copy of your Passport for registration ,and a fee of 1$ only!
But I think you can rely on either airport taxis or ones from the hotel just either ask for one in advance !!
And uber should be as your backup plan

Depends what time you land, US$20 during the day, possibly nearer US$30-35 at night. Nico should give you a fair price but haggle a bit with him!

Uber has different rates in DSM total fare ~ base fare 1000tsh + 450tsh * kilometres + 95tsh* minutes ...

Not sure why Uber is so important on a travel forum when most of us know it. The OP asked for a 'trusted driver' ie. someone who isn't in the airport taxi rank nor someone on Uber ...

I've been going to TNZ for years, last few times for work, Nico is a trusted driver!

OP - there are some great places to eat and drink near the hotel, either a kilometre or so away in Tabata turning right out of the gate, or a little place a few doors down to the left!

Well I also ,happen to know of a trusted and an Uber driver you can check with him also ,he usually stationed around city center and works only at night (ubering)! Should give Good rates if not better and goes by surname Abdulkadir
