I'm planning to visit both Tanzania (Zanzibar,mainly) and Malawi. Do any companies (Airtel for instance) offer a single data SIM that can be used in both countries, or will I need to get separate ones?

It should be two separated Ines.
I've never been in Tanzania but in others (African) countries with Airtel coverage and I bought separated SIM cards.
It's not a problem because SIM cards are very cheap.

You can easily get a sim card in Tanzania. I'm not sure what company offers cellphone service in Malawi but I know that Airtel, Tigo, and Vodacom operates in Tanzania.
Where in Tanzania would you be?
