I'm also interested in info on this topic. so far I've heard of a 9 day safari with bobby tours that cost $1700 and a 3 day safari with spoonbill tours, that cost about $350 but didn't include the pricier Serengeti.

I'm trying to save money money on frills and have no qualms about camping. However, I want to ensure I get a reliable vehicle with a unimpeded view, a driver that's good at spotting wildlife, accommodation locations close to the animals and an intinerary that doesn't skip anything good just because it happens to be out of the way.

I'm happy for it to cost what it costs as long as it can meet those criteria. Can anyone make suggestions about a good operator?

Thanks in advance for any information

Probably too late for you but maybe relevant for other travellers: After doing safaris in Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Selous and Gombe Stream I found out that the lowest day price with decent quality (backpacker style) is about $160-$170 per day when sharing with 1 other person. Anything above that adds luxury but not necessarily things like better wildlife viewing. For that price you should be able to negotiate routes and stuff so the only thing you'll sacrifice a bit is creature comforts.

Hi Michele,

Just wondering what tour operator you ended up using. I am a similar traveller, single female looking for basic amenities with the best overall viewing experience.

Thanks!
