Booking bus and ferry tickets in advance | Tanzania - Lonely Planet Forum

Hi all
We heading to Tanzania on honeymoon this July/August. We have everything planned, safari booked and accommodation booked. On the trip we need to travel by bus from Dar es Salaam to Arusha and back and then a return ferry to Zanibar. We will be in Tanzania during the high season so is it advisable to book the bus/ferry tickets in advance online? Any info on reliable bus/ferry companies appreciated.

Given that the bus trip from Arusha to Dar es Salaam is usually 7-9 hours and then you will have to overnight in Dar (as you will arrive to late to connect with the last ferry sailing) and then add in taxi costs - have you considered flying from Kilimanjaro or Arusha direct to Zanzibar? If you book in advance it will just about break even and save you more than half a day - more time to enjoy the Island Paradise!!

Thanks guys for all the info. I had already looked into flying but it was too expensive though will have another look. Will also look at the bus company websites. Cheers again been a very helpful
