Do you have accommodation for 31 st Dec / 1 st Jan ?
If so it will depend upon what type of hotel you are staying in as to the events the will occur. If you are in private accommodation / camping them you might have to organise you own events. There are a number of shops selling alcohol so you should have a good time either way. Cheers.

Actually I stay in a pretty fancy hotel (Mount Meru), and they organise a bbq at a reasonable price (if it includes drinking) so I guess that's ok. It's just that I dont know anybody there.

Down city center there should be some locals with fire crackers ,they usually have also honk their cars while driving around and making some noise just after midnite for the new year celebrations , city night clubs too should be packed !
Ask the hotels staff for the locations they should be able to direct you!
