My question is, do you think it is safe to travel around South Africa in a camper van with two children? Anyone who has done this, can you please give me some feedback!

Does anyone out there know how long it would take to drive from Kakamas to the Twee Rivieren gate? And from Twee Rivieren back to Springbok? We'll be in Kakamas for a few days, hadnt planned to go to the the Transfrontier park due to time restraints, but wondered whether it would be worth nipping up there and staying for one night. i am J'burg for about 10 days with work but have a few days off here and there....

I am calling to the mass of knowledge for a few things to do for the time that i am here.

I have been to Soweto and the museums there which were incredible... I would like to go back again if somebody has some alternative ideas!! there is something alive and energetic about Soweto

Im travelling with my boyfrien to SA in august. We arrive at Cape Town at 17.00 and we intend to drive to Mossel bay, sleep there and in the morning drive to Knysa (we do it in the morning so we can see the views, I think the garden rout starts in Mossel Bay). At around 15.00 drive to Plattengbergh bay and spend the night there. The next day we go to Outdstroom and at about 17 drive to Cape Town through R62 and spend there two more days and two nights. Is this silly? We try to do the worse…

I looking to do an organized camping (budget) overland trip from Cape Town to Nairobi - I know that there are a lot of options out there and was hoping for some feedback on what people have done. Certain companies not to go with, recommendations of companies to go with? Any info would be great!

we'll be driving from cape town along the garden route to East London then on to Durban in September. Where should we stop along the way? We have 3 weeks and plan to spend about 5 days in Cape Town. Is it best to stay in the National Parks and which parks would you suggest. Do we have to book accommodation? Advice appreciated.

We're flying in to Jo'burg in two days for safari in Kruger and Botswana. Wondering if we can anticipate any problems as a result of the ongoing public workers' strike. Are airports affected? Is public transportation available?

Was trying to decide if i should just fly straight to Livingstone from Jo'burg and arrange my own accommodation etc or get a Package.

Flight is R 2682
Package is R 3250 (inc flights, 2 nights dorm accommdation, breakfast, transport to and from airport to accomm)

Now i was wondering if the flight is cost effective?
How much is transport to and from accommodation likely to cost?
How much is a room per night?

Also any recmmendations on where to stay?

I'm planning my - budget - diving trip to S-Africa & Mozambique. Although I will lbe carrying my divingequipment with me in my ordenary, big, cheap looking rucksack. Expensive stuff. So I want to minimize the risk of loosing it. I don't mind handing over money but loosing my equipment...

How is the 'mugging' risk in Durban rail station & south Metrorail leg? Should I avoid it? Or is the risk neglectable? My itinairy: Cape Town by train to Durban (arrivial in morning) , from Durban station…

I phoned big5 backpackers today from the UK to get some info on booking my kruger park tour in august 2007.
They were only too happy to offer advice and say phone 10 days before the time you want to visit so that I could pay 50% of the fee and book a placing. However, I read on another post on this site that this company is closing down. (coming from a source close to the backpackers itself).

does anyone know if this is true? I don't want to book if they are going to take the…
