Has anyone stayed at Cape Town Backpackers?
Thinking about staying in the honeymoon suite (although not on honeymoon).

More importantly than the hotel itself, how is the area?
Is there a good selection of resaurants within walking distance?
Are there any shops in the area you can strol around in during the evening?
Is it safe to walk around in the are during the evening (not very late though)
Is it within safe walking distance of long street where I have understood a lot of bars, restaurants and other…

Hello!

I'm a south african female that has lived in england for 8 years. i'm for the first time making a trip back home as an adult on my own.
I have some family in Stellenbosch, and some in Jo-burg.
Apart from flying, what would be the best/cheapest/safest/most enjoyable way of making my way down to cape town???
I would love to take the train, but the Blue Train is completely out of my league.
The Greyhound looks like an option, but it would be nice to avoid inner-city bus stations...

Has anyone…

Hi, I´m going to spend around 20 days in Sth Africa, late January and early Febuary. Just me and my 5yo daughter. We are on a budget so we will be backpacking but I need some advice on child friendly hostels in J´burg and Capetown. I definately don´t want to stay in party places as those days ended for me about 10 years ago.
Also- safaris into the Krugar. How long is too long for a 5 year old? Sure she likes animals but sitting round in the hot sun for hours might be hell. Any recomendations on…

Hi all

I'd love to know if anyone has stayed at the Train Lodge in Cape Town, and if so, what you thought of it.

Thanks

Driving distances

Hi all--
We're going to be in SA and Moz. around Easter and planning to drive from J'burg to Kruger, then onto Maputo but wondering how long the drives are and the driving conditions. Also--any recommendations for rental car places that will let us go into Moz? We've been discouraged from doing this by one travel agent (very dangerous--buy tons of insurance etc...) Is it that bad really?! I remain skeptical of agents advice.

Thanks!!

Hi all,

1. would anyone recommend taking travellers cheques? I’ve never used them as I think they can be a bit of pain but I’ve also been told to take some over for security. How widely accepted are they? I’m going to be traveling through Botswana & Zimbabwe also. I’m traveling solo so safety/security is a big issue and I think getting a lot of cash out all at once will be easiest but am also a bit worried about getting mugged and losing it all!

2.Does it rain much in Botswana, Zimbabwe & South…

Am flying to johannesburg beginning of april 08 and taking the baz bus to fly out of capetown, in total over a 2week period.
Am really interested in trying to do a safari in that time and some cage diving with sharks...
Can anyone tell me if they know of anywhere en-route that is reliable but affordable. I'd rather pay a bit more to get a good safe trip but am trying to do it on a pretty tight budget as this is just the start of my rtw trip. Transfers to and from would probably be best as i'm…

Is it worth going to Pilanesberg at the end of November or is the bush too thick for decent wildlife viewing?
Thanks

Kruger Trips

Thanks to all who helped me before.Another parks question. If I decide to do an organised tour of Kruger from a hostel eg in Nelspruit, instead of driving myself,do I still need to book in advance? Where do you sleep on this kind of trip? I see that lots of accomodation is already booked for next August. Thanks,Luc
