Hello
We are driving from Johannesburg to Cape Town, taking the Garden Route, but via Swaziland. The route looks like - Johannesburg, Mbabane, via Swaziland, St. Lucia, Durban, East London, Mossel Bay, Cape Town.
Please note that we are NOT going to Kruger Park.
Do we need to get a 4x4 or can we rent an economy/compact non-4x4 car?

Any responses are appreciated. Thank you!

Hi everyone,

I've started planning our first South Africa trip and would like to ask your opinion on my first ideas for the itinerary. I'll be traveling with my husband, we are both around 30 years old and quite experienced travelers. We have 5,5 weeks to spend and will have our own car during this time.

First day arrive early morning
Cape Town 4 nights
Stellenbosch 2 nights
Oudthoorns 1 night
Knysna/wilderness 3 nights
Tsitsikamma 2 nights
Addo 2 nights
Chintsa 2 nights
Coffee Bay 2 nights

I am going to be in Cape Town in early November and It appears this is low season for great whites. I really want to go cage diving but will I actually get to see sharks? If so, where will they be? And any recommended off season operators?

Thanks

Hello everyone! I know this might be a weird question, but I hope you'll bare with me as it is something I've been thinking about.

We're going to Kruger next friday, and the thing is that we need a cooler box and elements. My question to you guys, mostly the foreign ones is: What do you with leftovers when you leave? Or to the locals: What should we do with them? I'm not thinking about scraps of food. But we can't really take the cooler box in our luggage back to Norway, and it seems a waste…

I have three months, car hire and a vague plan to get to know Cape Town & sorrounds. Mostly spending time along the coast in nature, but also people watching & cafes. Aim is to de-stress & take in the local vIbe.

Would there be enough to occupy me ? Or should I factor in some long distance drives to either the wild coast or perhaps even towards Nambia ?

Thanks

Noob question time! put flak jacket

Thinking to drive a 6 weeks loop from Johannesburg that goes vaguely like this :

Johannesburg, Kruger, Swaziland, Drakensberg, Lesotho, Cape town, South of Namibia, Etosha, Central Kalahari, Chobe, Victoria Falls, Bulawayo, Harare, Great Zimbabwe Ruins, Johannesburg.

This is the general idea, but with of course (lol) other stops on the way for various rock art sites or wildlife spots.

Considering the road conditions in these countries that I know nothing…

Hello,

Would anyone know a shuttle company that offers daily transfers to Marloth Park (or Nelspruit) via the Panorama Route? I have booked a lodge in the Marloth Park so I am not interested in safari packages, etc. My lodge would most probably offer a full day Panorama Tour, but if I can do this while travelling from JNB there, that would save me time.

Thank you!

Visitors Visa

Hey everyone,

I need a bit of advice because the embassies in the UK and Ireland are equally terrible and after trying for months to contact them, I've given up.

I'm Irish, have an Irish passport but I was born in Northern Ireland, which is technically in the UK. I'm visiting my friend in Cape Town for 3 months (90 days) and after doing a bit of research, I know that I am allowed in the country without a visa for that duration!

However, can someone please walk me through what I need to do at…
