Hi I am gonna wander around Southern Africa for few months with a low budget so I will probably be interesting in wwoofing some times to times to save a bit of money.
Is there any of you with that kind of experience in this part of the world ? Did you enjoyed it ? Is it a good idea ?
Thanx for the answers
Karine

Sorry, I have no personal information. Contact the Ethical Coop, an organic cooperative in Cape Town. They might be able to help.

wwoofing might not be a to a recognised terminology in South Africa - so best you explain what you after or you might be the welcome recipient of a litter of dozen puppies - woof woof

As far as I know, WWOOF (something like World Wild Organisation of Organic Farms) is an organisation of exchange work. You work few hours a days (not more than 4 usually) in organic farms principaly but it can be something else sometimes (bed and breakfast, community...). The shores can be cleaning, fencing, gardening, suppervising homeworks for the kids, building...You assist the family in their daily life and they provide you food and accomodation. It's a good opportunity to live with the people of the country you are in and learn lots of new things including a language !
I hope I am a bit clearer.

You learn something new every day!
I don't think that's available in SA...??
What's that other one - bed exchange... oh I found it: Couch Surfing

Yes it is available in South Africa. There is 16 adresses of "wwoof hosts" registered in the WWOOF independant list.
Couch surfing is a bit different. You don't have to work to get a bed and food. But it seems to be a good and very handy organisation. I haven't try but I met few people travelling and spending most of their nights in Couch surfing places.
Except for people who has been travelling in Australia and New-zealand, i am surprised to see that WWOOF is not that famous ! It's good to make it known because it's a good opportunity for people with a low budget to be able to travel around the world anyway.

possibly abalimi bezekhaya - they operate in communities in phillipi and khayelitsha (cape town townships) http://www.abalimi.org.za/
there is also SEED http://www.seed.org.za/
either of these might point you in the right direction for opportunities in the cape town area
then nationally food and trees for africa http://www.trees.co.za/
Hi thanks for all the tips !
I wrote an email to the ethical coop, I get accomodation with "couchsurf" ! and I am gonna have a look at those three sites missalaska, abalimi and trees.
I am trying to get my wwoof membership but I have some troubles to majke my payment via the UK website. So the other organisame might- be a very good alternative.
Cheers
