I am trying to get a sense of travel times between rest camps, considering normal sightseeing, etc. how about from:
1) the town of Nelspruit to Lower Sabie camp ( yes, I know Nelspruit is not a rest camp)
2) Lower Sabie to Olifants
3) Olifants up to Shingwedzi
4) and the most direct way back to Nelspruit Airport from Shingwedzi Rest Camp.
Thank you

1) its about 1 hour from nelspruit to malelane gate and 1.5 hours to the crocodile bridge gate. assuming that you will leave nelspruit in the morning (and therefore will have time to spend some of the day in krüger np), it would enter krüger at malelane gate. from malelane gate, its about 100km to lower sabie (from crocodile bridge about 40km), so you will have more time in the park. in the park, you want to drive slowly (40km per hour maximum) and allow enough time to stop and look for animals and to stop and enjoy animals.

2.) its about 150km to olifants. you want to start the day early (to make the most of it), and to have again enough time to drive slowly, stop, view and enjoy. also, it's nice if you have enough time to take some "detours". to allow for unexpected but positive "delays" / surprises and enough time for lunch.

3.) another 150km to shingwedzi

4.) from shingwedzi, i think the nearest gate to exit krüger is at phalaborwa, about 140km away. i would consider returning the car there and flying out from phalaborwa. if you want to continue to krüger mpumanlaga airport (nelspruit), add 220km, and about 6 hours driving from shingwedzi.

Thanks Nathalie2, Good, helpful information. We are probably driving from Jo'burg, leaving in the morning on 18/1/15, then back to Jo'burg on the 24th. Still working out plans
