Hello,

I will be in Cape Town in October and I'm looking for a top restaurant there.
Do you have any suggestions ?

I was planning to go to "La colombe" but I have seen that the chef Frank Dangereux has left. Is that true ?

Thanks for your advice.

Cheers

Here's a list of the top restaurants in Cape Town as chosen by Dine 2007. La Colombe is still on it, so whoever is cooking is obviously keeping the standard up.

Frank Dangereaux took over a small restaurant at Noordhoek Farm Village about a year ago. It's now called the Foodbarn -- but it's not in La Colombe's league as to reputation in the gourmet stakes (though I'm sure that's no reflection Frank's skills!). It's just a completely different market.

If you don't mind a drive into the Winelands, I recommend Le Quartier Francais in Franschhoek, or Terroir at Kleine Zalze near Stellenbosch.

Thanks for your answer.

I am already going to La petite ferme in Franschhoek which seems to be nice.

I think I am still going to try La petite colombe, even if that's a new chef.

It can't be bad :-)

The chef of Jardine (#2 on CTLocal's link) was chosen as the chef of the year by Eat Out magazine in 2006. It's well worth a visit. Link.

Another option is The Showroom..

You need to book for both.

Hi Faimousse,

Its nearly two years since I last ate at La Colombe, but what a memorable meal - just fabulous! Agree with Nik nak that Eat-out is a helpful guide.

Re. Franschhoek, I have had frequent meals at La Petite Ferme and will continue to go back, but there food really isn't "all that" especially in compariosn to the competition. Still haven't managed to get a reservation, when I've been down that way, but am dying to try Reubens - if you have the opportunity GO!
