We will be arriving at JNB at 16:00 on a Saturday (beginning of November). We depart from JNB at 20:30 the next Friday. So total about 6 full days to do things. Short trip, I know, but it’s what we have. Not really sure what would be the best itinerary for us. We are interested in doing the following things (also if more things not listed below could be fit in, we would definitely be open to that as well!):

Cape Town
Must do’s - Table Mountain, Robben Island
If possible – Shark Dive, Cape Point, V&A

*Johannesburg **–
*Must do’s
- Apartheid Museum, Constitution Hill, Safari/Reserve (not sure if this even possible with the short time)

Would be flying between JNB & CPT (believe it would be best to fly to CPT upon arriving to JNB; obviously dependent upon best game plan).

Any itinerary suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I know you don't have that much time to visit everywhere but according to me you should also try Johannesburg Botanical Garden, Johannesburg Museums, Gold Reef City, Hartbeespoort Dam,
Cradle of Humankind, Montecasino, 3-Day Victoria Falls Tour with Round-Trip Flight from Johannesburg, Full-Day Big Five Game Drive in Kruger National Park.

You're relaly pushing it if you want to do a safari and Cape Town. If I was you, I'd book a flight straight to Cape Town when you land into JHB. So you will literally not leave the airport, and fly to Cape Town arriving Sat night. Spend Sun-Wed in Cape Town which is plenty of time. While in CT, you'll have time to visit Table MOuntain (I think Lions Head is much ebtter), shark dive, cape point, and even a day to the wine farms. Wednesday morning you will fly back to JHB, have a safari company meet you at the airport so they will drive you straight to Kruger where you can do a full day game drive Thursday, and then an early morning game drive Friday before they take you back to the airport Friday afternoon.

Honestly, Johannesburg is a good place to live and work but it is not a city for tourists so you're wasting your time spending anything more than 2 days in JHB unless you have friends there that will take you around. The apartheid museum is cool but it's just a museum, and is it worth spending 2 nights in JHB for? Probably not. The lion park is cool but it's certainly not better than visiting a real game reserve. Montecasino, Hartesbeespoort dam, gold reef city, nothing special.

I lived in SA for 2 years and I always told my friends to meet me in Cape Town because it's so beautiful and there's so much to do.

Follow Johnny Africa's advice. Joburg is NOTHING SPECIAL and definitely not worth the short amount of time you have. If you spend half your time in Joburg and then go to Cape Town, you will really resent that you spent time in Joburg. Cape Town is amazing. You also can fit in a safari to Kruger, just like Johnny Africa advised. Starting out early morning in Joburg you are in Kruger before dark, seeing elephant and lion, etc. Also, Joburg is huge and if you arrive at the airport and transfer to a hotel, you are going to waste a lot of time on nothing. Fly straight to Cape Town from the airport. Apartheid Museum can be missed. Go see Robben island instead in Cape Town.

Thanks Johnny & Crewton. That was pretty much what we thinking, but wanted to make sure that we indeed were on the right path.

Forgot to add....Check out hotel "Upperbloem", for Cape Town. You can find it on booking.com, etc. Very reasonably priced apartment in Bo-Kaap. The best part is the amazing view of both Table Mountain and Downtown (ask for corner room with this view). Owner is amazing. She got me a shark cage dive for $100 US, which is almost half of what most are asking. I also booked day a day trip to the Cape with her help. A shark cage dive will take up a whole day, by the way because you have to go away from Cape Town for it.

Thank you all for your recommendations!

We have decided to go with -

JNB > CPT immediately; stay in CPT for 4 days; CPT > MQP; 2 days @ Kruger (Skukuza Rest Camp); MQP > JNB; JNB > Home

This game plan will allow us to see most of what we would like and get the most out of the short time we have there. Greatly looking forward to it!
