I will be driving in South Africa specifically Joburg/Pretoria, Kruger NP, Blyde Canyon, PeterMaritzburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth to Mossel Bay and back, Bloemfontein, and Cape Town.
I would appreciate if you can share your opinions for hostel-like places to stay at. Thanks!

South Africa has some great hostels. Check out http://www.coasttocoast.co.za/ - there's usually (free) copies of their book in most hostels as well. You can also check out the BazBus stops as those are usually popular places as well.
Hi ghalied: thanks - are these hostel chains or individual hostels - if so, which towns they are in? How are Hostelling International hostels in SA?
They're all individual hostels. Some of them are affiliated to each other but nothing close to being a chain. Some of them are affiliated with Hostelling International but its not usually a deciding factor for me.
Oh the first backpackers I mentioned before "Drakensberg Backpackers" should be Amphitheatre backpackers - my bad.
What specifically are you looking for in terms of accommodation? Do you want the young party atmosphere backpacker hostels? Then stick to the ones that are also BazBus stops. Though the party atmosphere is hit and miss once you leave the cities.

I am in SA Sep 21 thru Oct 14 and in Namibia Oct 15 thru Nov 4, when I leave for Victoria Falls. I have already made most reservations including car rentals. If you are able to adjust your plans, we can do Namibia and/or SA together. Good luck and enjoy your travels!

rental car...any restrictions in taking them outside south africa..to Nambia?..other countries
