We are planning a honeymoon to South Africa around February and were wondering if anyone can recommend any private game reserves along the Garden Route or near Port Elizabeth. The Shamwari is a little expensive for us, we're looking to spend about £700 for a 2 night safari.
Also can anyone recommend any travel agents (preferably with an office near Manchester) that we could use? We have been to Travelbag but were very unimpressed with their service, we went in asking about South Africa and they just tried to sell us Kenya for a 7 day safari and 7 days on the beach.

Hi Taffy Dave,
I guess you're Welsh then! My dad was born in Wales :o).
I have done some research following our recent trip to Addo. Shamwari is certainly one of the pricier options but here are details I found of other Eastern Cape Private game reserves.
I would stick to one of these if you can -- there ARE reserves along the Garden route (check them out here - garden route game reserves -- but they are small, (except for Sanbona, but that's as pricey as Shamwari) and not in the same league as the Eastern Cape IMO.
Best of luck, I hope you find something really memorable without breaking the bank!

Try Blaauwbosch it has only six luxurious chalets located around the main house ask for one with the view of the Cockscomb mountains they have a fantastic view.
It is a 5 star big 5 reserve, smaller and with less animals than Shamwari it will cost you about £750 for the two nights which includes all meals and game drives.
For 2 weeks I would start in Cape Town drive along the Garden Route make sure you visit Natures Valley the Tsitsikamma National Park and the Addo National Park, the Game Reserve and then fly out of Port Elizabeth, which despite what everyone will tell you is also worth a visit.
