Hi everyone,

I will be traveling in South Africa/Zimbabwe in a couple of weeks and I am looking for some advice on how best to get from Pretoria to Bulawayo.. I will be arriving in Pretoria at 4:50 am on Friday September 26th via the train from Nelspruit. I would like to continue on to Bulawayo, where I want to catch the night train to Victoria Falls on the night of the 27th.. I am seeing pretty much three options which may be possible.

Option 1: Morning bus from Pretoria to Messina. Cross border, and take night train from Beit Bridge to Bulawayo.

Option 2: Night bus from Pretoria to Bulawayo.

Option 3: Night train from Pretoria to Messina. Cross border and take bus from Beit Bridge to Bulawayo.

Which one of these options do you think is best? I am not too fond of overnight buses, but I haven't had too many experiences with them. How are the intercape and greyhound buses from Pretoria to Bulawayo as far as comfort goes? Is there any chance of sleeping? Also, it seems that option 1 may not be possible because there is no "day" bus from Pretoria to Messina on Fridays. Is this true?

I hope someone can help me out with this, as I cannot figure what the best option would be.. Thanks so much in advance!

I once took the Greyhound to Bulawayo. It was a good bus and you shouldn't have a problem sleeping. Don't know much about the other options so can't compare them unfortunately.

I'd do option 2, overnight coach all the way. That means less messing about on the border, and that border can be terrible!! Intercape or Greyhound are both fine, but maybe pay a little extra for their better seat options.
