we'll be driving from cape town along the garden route to East London then on to Durban in September. Where should we stop along the way? We have 3 weeks and plan to spend about 5 days in Cape Town. Is it best to stay in the National Parks and which parks would you suggest. Do we have to book accommodation? Advice appreciated.

If you want to stay in the National Park accommodation try Wilderness, the Tsitsikamma National Park and Addo, but you will need to book now.

National Park accommodation is self catering, basic but clean. Guest Houses are excellent and good value, you can probably just turn up, most Towns have an Information Office and will help with bookings but only work office hours.

If you have a reasonable budget, think about the Shamwari off season special, Shamwari is a 5 star game reserve with the big 5 located close to Port Elizabeth, it also wins loads of awards. They offer 2 nights fully inclusive and 3 free nights B+B at the Radisson in Cape Town for 5,900 Rand per person, again book now.

Between East London and Durban make sure you visit Coffee Bay or Port St John, the Umnagzi River Bungalows win all the awards and are close to Port St John, there market is mostly South African so the prices are good, but again you need to book now.

Enjoy your trip.

Get hold of as copy of 'Coast to Coast', it's a free guide/directory of backpackers throughout SAfrica. You can usually get copies from backpacker lodges, but they have a website: www.coastingafrica.com<BR>Ndlovu
