We'll be in the Cape Winelands for a couple of days on an upcoming trip to South Africa. My wife is pregnant so won't be able to enjoy the wine tasting. I've read about some of the wineries offering olive oil tastings as well, which would be of high interest to my wife. Any recommendations?

I'd also be interested if you have recommendations for other activities at different wineries. Among our interests are organic farming practices, wildlife and nice restaurants. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

i've had wine tastings in combination with chocolate or cheese, but no olive oil tastings so far. so not from personal experience, but i googled and found this www.capeoliveroute.com/stellenbosch-and-helderberg-region-tour.php, which sounds quite interesting.

the last time i was in cape town i spent a day at groot constantia, which is a very famous and old traditional winery in the constancia valley, and i loved it. the estate offers beautiful views over cape town, you can join an interesting cellar tour, there is a small museum, and beautiful park and a very nice restaurant with outdoor setting and fantastic food. www.grootconstantia.co.za/

i will be in cape town in september and look forward to visit www.babylonstoren.com/home which has been recommended to me, and seems to have a beautiful garden and organic farming.

When are you in Cape Town? I would look to see if any of the wine and food festivals are happening - a good place to start is here: http://tourismcapetown.co.za/leisure-travel/article/food-and-wine-festivals-in-cape-town-and-the-western-cape. (PS Nathalie, the McGregor festival mentioned for September unfortunately starts 30 Aug which I don't think suits you).

You might also want to check out Montebello design Centre (http://www.montebello.co.za/) - it has a great cafe, a really old greenhouse and some cool arty craftsman shops/workshops.

Also the Cape Town World Design Capital 2014 is happening (projects here: http://www.wdccapetown2014.com/projects) and some of the projects around gardening (mostly focussing on sustainabilty) are Green Clusters (http://www.capetownpartnership.co.za/our-work/green-clusters/), Seed (http://seed.org.za/ or http://www.wdccapetown2014.com/projects/project/504) and http://www.oudemolenecovillage.co.za/home-oude-molen-eco-village/ . I don't have specific info about these projects but as with most of the WDC2014 projects so you can contact them and they're usually quite open about people wanting to get more info/visit and their are usually specif events for 2014 as well.
