Haha.. you go girl!

But seriously though, if I was in a dorm and someone was snoring their brains out.. I wouldn't be rude to him/her the next morning.. I'd go out and buy myself some earplugs. If someone complains.. they should remember they are staying in a dorm and stuff like that should be expected. If they can't handle it, then they should stay in a room and enjoy their privacy.

So girl! Tell us how it goes! ;op

Hi guys,

thanks for advice. Sorry to sound really paranoid, it was just that I mentioned to my friend who is South African but moved to UK recently that I was going in a mixed dorms and she freaked out and told me lots of horror stories about girls being raped etc which made me worry! Its weird, all the South Africans I know in England have been the most negative about me going to South Africa and have told me not to go with lots of horror stories whereas everyone else I know who have been have nothing but positive experiences!

That is not surprising - generally speaking the negative ex-South Africans have gone abroad; those of us who are positive have remained here.

Here's an ex South African who says "Go for it" and bear in mind, most of the people you'll be sharing with are from other countries, just like you. South Africans are warm and friendly people who will go out of their way to make your stay a good one.

Lol moods - well tell us how it goes then! =)

Spaghetti - I'm from Zambia and there are lots of South Africans here that can give you some horror stories too, mostly about Jo'burg though, but even then my parents were seriously worried I was going and on my own.. and every chick I met in Cape Town.. I dunno.. maybe it's coz I was there as a tourist but I never felt I was in danger at any point, though I most definitely heeded their advice.. I actually ended up getting as paranoid as everyone else. Actually heard a couple of horror stories from some locals so I guess just be sensible and you'll be fine. And as secret says, everyone you meet in the dorm are travellers from all over the world.. if you don't feel safe, then move out and stay in a room.. better to be safe than sorry.
