Hi,

Does anyone know where I would have the best chance of seeing leopards in South Africa? I'm planning on going there this Xmas, if this has any relevance.

Many thanks

Private reserves around the Kruger Park are probably your best bet for a sure spotting. Pricey though. Try Sabi Sands

Hi, I'm not sure if you have been before but apparently the Pilanesburg in the evening is a good place to spot them with a guide. I visited there earlier in the year in the morning and didn't see any but I guess that is expected.

Noone can guarantee that you'll see leopards. You either spot them or you don't.

I saw leopards at Mala Mala, another of the private reserves mentioned by #1.

I agree with #1 above. I would go to Motswari, in the Umbabat Reserve.

Damn. Leopards are all on holiday at Xmas.

I have seen one leopard in S.A., lying just outside one of the hotel enclave gates at the end of an evening game drive. A friend told us we would see lots of leopards at South Luangwa Park in Zambia. We saw one, for a few seconds. Leopards are rather solitary cats so it is awfully hard to guarantee you will see one. Just try to get the best odds. Private reserves maybe the best odds but, as noted, expensive.

Anyone who tells you that you will see "lots of leopards" is talking nonsense. The only place that you can go where you will certainly see leopards is Jo'burg zoo. You will pay a premium price at Sabi Sands or Umbabat, especially around Christmas which is peak season, and even they cannot guarantee a sighting unless they are baiting them...which wouldn't surprise me.
