Hi,
Who can give me some advice for the Kruger park… My plan is to drive by car from Jo´burg to the Kruger park and stay there for 3 days. How should I handle this? Can I drive to place X and enter the park? Do I need to make a reservation? What kind of route would you take and where would you sleep? The LP says that the south of the Kruger park is most beautiful part, also in January? If you can help me with some practical tips or suggestions, I will be very thankful.
I will land in Jo´burg on January 9 (in the morning).
Thank you very much,
Heiko

Up until mid-January the schools are on holiday and the park can be pretty full. After that things calm down a bit. Have a look at the Kruger sectiuon of www.Sanparks.org</a> and check the availability of accommodation during the period that you want to be there and pre-book. Make sure you allow enough time (at 20km/hour) to get yourself to the nearest camp before closing time. Have a look at the maps of the park and try to book accommodation at a camp near to the entrance (depending on the time you plan on getting there) such as Orpen, Pretoriuskop, Skukuza, Crocodile Bridge or Berg-en-Dal. Then next day drive up to Satara and spend the next two nights there. While there do a sunset drive and a morning bush walk - you can book these in advance as well if you want to. Alternatively, head straight for Satara for the first two nights and then drive to Lower Sabie for your third night. In that case exit the park at Crocodile Bridge.
Depending upon the entrance gate you use the drive from Johannesburg would be anything from 4 1/2 to 6 hours.
As to the route to get there - again it would depend on your reservations, but basically you would head out on the N4 highway. This is a toll road and they do not take foreign cards, so have S A Rands available. You can also not pay for fuel with a card - hard cash only.
