Hello all,
I'm heading to South Africa in April on my honeymoon and we are planning to go to the Krugar National Park and then to head to the Garden Route. Unfortunately I'm having difficulty finding accomodation in the Krugar Park. I have looked at the bungalows in the park and they all seem to have twin rooms. Is there anywhere that somebody can recommend? If I get a place to stay outside the park, would that mean that I have to book day passes?
Also, we are planning this as our itinerary:
1/. Arrive + stay a night in Johannesberg
2-6/. Krugar Park
6 - 8 fly to George and drive to Tsitsikamma
9-12 Knysna,
Does this make sense?
Thanks!

hi tom
i'm assuming you will be self-driving, right ? are you planning to drive from joburg to krüger np ? if yes, it is possible to do it in one day, but if you stop overnight you can also enjoy the panorama route (blyde river canyon, 3 rondavels, pilgrim's rest etc. ) on the way and take it a bit more slowly.
is the problem with staying in a restcamp within the park that you find only twin rooms and that you are looking for a double room (which is understandable, especially as you will be on your honeymoon) ? you may want to look at the south african national park website, where you can find great information about the restcamps etc. skukuza for example has luxury bungalows with double beds http://www.sanparks.org/parks/kruger/camps/skukuza/tourism/accommodation.php. if you stay outside of the park, choose a lodge / hotel not far from a gate. hazyview is a good choice. if you stay outside of krüger, you just pay the entrance fee at the gate when you drive in in the morning (there is no limitation on how many visitors are allowed in to park per day). please look at https://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/forums/africa/south-africa/kruger-recommendations for more info on the different accommodation options in and near krüger np. and do consider spending 2 or 3 nights in a private game reserve (not cheap, but a fantastic experience). its your honeymoon, so why not splurge a bit and do something that you will always remember.
as for the second part of your itinerary: i would fly to port elizabeth (instead of george). both airports are about 160km away from tsitsikamma. the advantage if you ply to p.e., is that you will not drive the same way twice (if you fly to george, you drive via knysna to tsitsikamma, and later on back to knysna). where are you going after knysna ? to george and fly back home via joburg ? you are not planning to visit cape town ?
