i want to get a feel for africa am intrested in seeing wildlife but plan on doing a safari in kenya and tanzania as well as kruger and am worried about doing too much safari?want to see the countries for what they are not just hotel and tour bus
thanks

You are smart to realize that there can be safari overload.
For me, this applies to too many days in a row. (3-4 days is usually plenty.) But parks are very different. I have visited more than a dozen parks and am definitely not satiated! (And after a few years off, I want to go back to many of the places I have already been.)
What is your budget like? Botswana tends to be pricey. (Are you interested in the delta, Chobe, or both?)
Starting to think about a route between places can also help firm up your plans.
Take Care,
BB

still looking and thinking there are so many options probally finish my south africa portion in jo'burg so up from there ideally not a return trip as can fly internally to tanzania depending on costs, was probally thinking more of seeing the delta something a bit different to what i will see in tanzania/kenya. w
not tight but not rich so looking for mid range not really into the backpacker seen of drinking and going so fast you only get a glimpse what to have chance to take in what i'm seeing get off the beaten track a bit, want to do it as part of a group though as most likely be solo woman so would make me more comfortable to do majority with a group

I think SA has loads to offer so 4 weeks would be fine. here are a couple ideas:
The coastline from Cape Town to Plett is stunning, that would be worth a few days. The Drakensberg in KwaZulu-Natal is beautiful (royal natal national, injasuthi), and offers great hiking, the pick probably being the amphitheatre hike from the Sentinel car park. There is also a coastal hike called the Otter trail which is apparently phenomenal.
If you want warm water and sandy beaches try the KZN beaches south coast by Southbroom and Margate, La Mercie just north of Durban, otherwise for a mix of wildlife and beaches, the northern natal game reserves and St Lucia, Sodwana for scuba diving. The zululand game reserves are great but i agree you can only stare out of a car window for so long.
Mpumalanga is also pretty spectacular - Sabie, God's window, Blyde River etc etc.
Hard to narrow things down, but hiring a car is prob the best route to take it easy. For a good taste of rural south africa, great seafood and rugged beautiful coastline try the transkei - coffee bay and hole in the wall. There are both backpackers and hotels there. Really cool spot.
Stay on the Zambian side for the Vic Falls trip. It is an amazing spot - do a bungy jump as well!!
