Hi,
wow, haven't been here for ages!
My husband and I are going to South Africa for the first time in January 2016 for two weeks. We will travel with our little son, who will turn two years old just afer our trip.
We are quite well travelled (pre-kid), backbacking, one year RTW... have been on a couple of safaris before.
We will fly into Cape Town and then rent a car to drive to Port Elizabeth and fly home from there.
This is our rough plan so far:
4 nights in Cape Town
(one full day for the peninsula with boulders beach penguins and cape of good hope, v&a waterfront, table mountain, bloubergstrand beach, kirstenbosch botanical gardens..)
something here
3 nights Oudtshoorn
(Cango Ostrich Farm, Cango Wildlife Ranch, maybe Meerkats (husband only), maybe Ma Betty's Xhosa Cultural Village, maybe Swartberg Pass - depending on son's patience in the car, just generally soaking up the landscape, going for walks...)
4 nights Plett
(running round on the beach, Robberg Nature Reserve, Monkeyland, Birds of Eden, Knysna Elephant Park or Elephant Sanctuary, visit to Nature's Valley, maybe Lawnwood snake park...)
3 nights Addo
(stay at main camp, self drives or hang out at camp (there is a pool), depending on the little one, we'llgo directly from addo to Airport)
We would love to see Cape Argulhas, but it seems to be a bit out of the way. At the moment I'm not totally happy with this itinerary because from CT to Oud is a long drive, even if we take breaks, we don't want to spend all day in the car with the little one.
So my two questions are:
Are we missing anything spectacular/important? (Tsitsikamma, Storm River...?)
Where could we stay in between CT and Oud to avoid the long drive? We are NOT interested in the wine country. We are also missing the whole area around Muizenberg, De Hoop, Cape Argulhas...
Are we spending too many/too few nights anywhere? We don't want to move every 2 nights or so. We'd rather have 3 or 4 bases to spend 3 or 4 nights in each.
Any thoughts or tips appreciated :)
