We'll be going on a Safari in Kruger and then fly home from Jo-Burg. We have the option to stay one or two (flying out in late evening) extra days in Jo-burg.
One of the days é´ll probably take a tour to Soweto, but if we stay another day I have no idea what to do there.
So before we decide to go home after just one day I´d like to ask you for some ideas of what to do if we decide to stay an extra day.
Are there for instance any arranged daytrips to Sun City or the Cheetah conservation program? I´d prefer something easy that does not require any planning by youself for this day.
Any other options?

Hi,

I think you should consider a visit to the apartheid museum, if you're not already planning on it: http://www.apartheidmuseum.org/ .
You can also check these sites for Joburg events calendar: http://www.joburg.org.za/calendar/index.stm

You can phone taxis to drop you and if ask, many drivers will be willing to wait for you while you visit.
Enjoy!

You can join organised trips to Sun City yes. The Magic Bus runs a shuttle.

The cheetah conservation program is at "De Wildt" - there are some other animals too like wild dogs (chances to see them in Kruger exist but is low, they keep themselves scarce!)

You can also consider a day trip to the Cradle of Humankind (world heritage site) -
Maropeng, Origins Centre, The Cradle nature reserve

Wilro Tours arranges day trips like the above and others ...

Don't miss the Cradle of Humankind! Prioritize this over everything else!

If you use this link you will find a list of things to do in the Johannesburg / Pretoria area in one of the responses to a question very similar to yours.
Enjoy your stay here.

I second the arpartheit mseum vote, but theres also the african museum in the city centre which is well worth a visit. I'm not a museum buff by any means, but it was worth spending a bit of time there.

I've used Viator.com for day trips in several places--Turkey, Croatia, Costa Rica--and found them to be good values and very convenient when you have a free day or two. You can book on line and they award FF miles.

Sterkfontein Caves is a great and interesting day out.

Sterkfontein, absolutely, plus Apartheid museum. You'll manage both in a day.

You should consider exploring Johannesburg proper, without venturing into somewhere else. It's got lots of pleasant surprises. And the much-dissed CBD is a must in my opinion.
