Hi all,

I'm arriving at CPT on November the 4th and unfortunately have to depart South Africa and CPT on November 21st.
Time is too short to include a visit to the West (Drakensbergen, Lesotho, JNB), so I'm focussing on the Eastern Cape & Addo (PE).

I've checked some options to travel from CPT, via the Garden Route to Addo. Overland tours seem interesting, as they offer activities, accommodation and entrance fees. They only have the 6 or 7 day tours available, the 13 day tours (including Lesotho and Drakensbergen) are fully booked or don't match my arrival & departure at/from CPT.
If I book an Overland tour, I still have 9 to 10 days left to fill up in Cape Town and surroundings (Cape Point, Hermanus etc.). Maybe a bit too much and I don't want to rush my way up to Addo.

The other option is taking a 14 day bus pass from Baz Bus. That way I can make my own program at my own pace and maybe spend more days in Addo or Knysna or other NP's.

Has anyone of you experienced some of the Overland tours (Garden Route tours) between CPT and Addo? If so, is it worthwhile or rushing from one place to another?
How easy is it to make my own itinerary from CPT to Addo (and back) with the Baz Bus?

Any help would really much appreciated. Thanks so much!

with 16 days in south africa, i would
- rent a car and self drive (which doesnt seem to be an option for you)
- book at tour - look at drifters, nomad, intrepid, dragoman, explore, g adventure, sunway safaris for example for tours that might fit your itinerary and / or time schedule
- or take the baz bus, which will give you more flexibility

Those are the options I was considering :)
Self driving will give me ultimate freedom, yet I'm on my own and rather meet some fellow travelers along the way.

The only tours that fit in my schedule or the ones available are maximum 7 days. That leaves about 9 to days for Cape Town and surroundings. Is that too much?

Are there any examlle initerary's for traveling by Baz Bus from Cape Town to Addo?
Which activities are really worthwhile and what are the ideal spots/city's to stay over?

okay, so if the only tour thats fits is for 7 days (which leaves you for 9 nights), and assuming that on the 7 days tour, you will not visit cape town and the garden route:
- you can spend 9 days for cape town and surroundings. cape town is an amazing city and there is so much to do and see in and around it, personally i could spend weeks there without getting bored. but yes, 9 days is more than most people have. with 9 days, i would consider renting a car for 3-4 days, so that apart from the city, the cape peninsula and the winelands, you can also spend 2-3 days outside of the city and above mentionned surrounding areas. maybe drive to the hermanus / gans baai / de hoop area for whale watching, shark cage diving, beautiful scenery etc.
- the schedule for the baz bus from cape town to pe can be found here www.bazbus.com/timetable.aspx. no example itinerary, and what activities are really worthwile and what the ideal spots to stop over at depends on your interests of course. for me, it would be the hermanus area for whale watching, tsitsikamma np for nature and addo np (not on the baz bus route as far as i know) for wildlife. if you decide to do the garden route with the baz bus, allow for at least 4 days (5 if you want to include addo). so if you do the garden route, you will have less time for cape town and surrounding areas.

Thanks for responding!

The tours include the Garden Route. All of the tours include Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Tsitsikamma NP and Addo.
Most tours also include Hermanus and Cape Agulhas or Stellenbosch and Oudtshoorn.

It would be easier to take a 7-day tour with a filled program. However I don't want to rush too much and do some hiking as well.

Hire a car. I met loads and I hired a car on my own.
Or
Check the Baz Bus schedule online. It's better on the Western Cape than the Eastern Cape.

For hiking, the Robberg Nature Reserve outside Plett Bay or the Elephant trails oUtside Knysna are stunning.
