Hi - another quick question about itineraries if anyone has any input. We have 9 nights in and around Cape Town.

Was thinking Days 1-4 Cape Town, Day 5 - drive to Oudtshoorn, Day 6 - drive to Mossel Bay/ Knysna, Day 7 - drive to Swellendam, Day 8 - drive to Winelands, Day 9 - visit Winelands.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated - I'm finding it quite hard to find any info on driving times etc. Is it worth trying to see some of the Garden route or better to do Cape Town and the Winelands at a slower pace? (We're a couple, late 20s btw).

Thanks in advance for any help.

A drive from Capetown to Oudtshoorn is a very long drive, and you will be missing one of the best drives ie :- Route 62. I would suggest spending a night in Robertson via the Route 62 to Oudtshoorn. Robertson is a small town in the Breede River Valley. It is the second biggest wine producing area in SA after Stellenbosch. The wines are just as good as Stellenbosch, with a more laid back and friendly approach.

PS There is no charge for Wine Tasting in Robertson

Your circular route is do-able, it really depends on what you want out of your trip.

Here's an idea of non-stop driving times doing that route

CT to Oudtshoorn 5 hours, the raod is good and open, the scenery is fabulous. It is worth a stop en route if you had the time.
Oudtshoorn to Knysna about 2 hours. To Mossel Bay about 1 hour.
The Garden Route extends another 1 to 1.5 hours drive beyond Knysna and the stretch beyond is (IMO) more beautiful!
Knysna - Swellendam about 3 hours.
Swellendam to Winelands 2 hours

You may feel like you are doing the Route 62 and Garden Route at too fast a pace. You certainly won't have time to feel you really explored them. It might better to enjoy all the things to do around Cape Town and the Winelands this time and plan another trip to do justice to the Garden Route!

If you go for the Garden Route trip, here are our favourite places along there. link
