Evening all

I'm trying to work out what to do on my first trip to SA. Its 2 weeks in total, I'm going on my own and I will probably be taking the Baz Bus (not sure its the best idea to hire a car alone). I'm spending 2 days in CT and then meeting a friend in PE, 4 days later

Now what can I fit in the 3 days inbetween?

Options seems to be:

Hermanus
Oudshorn
Karoo
Wilderness
Storms River
and the Garden Route in general

What would you recommend I do in the time period, bearing in mind I'm tied to a baz bus timetable (ie, 1 bus a day at a set time)?

I'm keen to see good and varied scenery, get some walking/hiking/photography done....

all suggestions gratefully received

cheers

kastad, the OP have 4 days, including travel time! Can't visit all those!

I'm afraid you will have to choose one place, now the choice is hard. I only know Wilderness and Nature's valley(close to storms river) and their both fantastic and accessible by baz bus. Both have parks, although I found Nature's valley park more stunning. Wilderness is beautifull, don't get me wrong! Fantastic beach, and a park where you can do kayak, hiking... Nature's valley had great walks with stunning views, beach too ... I would recommend either of those!

Travelling will take you all together one day, so if you cut it in half by staying some place... let's see - leaving on day 1, visiting on days 2 and 3, and leaving on day 4... that's just enough for one place IMO!

Re Hermanus - is it going to be whale season? I think it's the main attraction to go there.

thanks catherine

difficult choices, indeed i think 1 or 2 places at the most can be fit in

Hermanus whale season is until November, but I'll be there at the very end of November, so it might not be worth it

i think Wilderness is looking a favourite

Oudtshoorn rules!

Stay at Backpacker's Paradise. Eat ostrich stuff - eggs, steak, paté etc. If you're under 75 kg, ride an ostrich. Do the adventure tour at Cango Caves (provided you're in good shape and not obese). Visit Kango Winery. Eat dinner at Jemima's.

PoP - I ate at Jemima's the other week on your recommendation - really good - friends flew over from uk and we took them on a road trip to addo and back.

OP hmmm i'd say wilderness or outshoorn. it depends how many activities you want to do and oudtshoorn is great for that. recently pulled into nature's valley - haven't been there in over 5 years - forgotten how stunning it was - lovely if you like to walk and chill.

enjoy

Yeah, I also found Oudtshoorn and nearby Prince Albert to be very pleasant surprises. Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, on the other hand, are quite overrated in my book.

The Garden Route is, on the whole, pretty scenic but it's not the best RSA has to offer.

The Bloukrans Bridge Bungee Jump was great, though.

missalaska: glad you enjoyed it! Someone here recommended it to me and I can't remember who it was :-(

ial2002: agree that Knysna is overrated. The Heads were nice and all, but I could have done without. Did you really do the jump? I'm not allowed to bungee jump because of eye issues :-(
