I only have one full day in Cape Town, what are the things I must see?

Cape point and Boulders beach in the morning, then, Table mountain and Kirstenbosch in the afternoon, Long street in the evening !

Wouldn't this depend on your interests? In any case, I don't see how anyone could do all the things listed in #1's post in one day. I spent four hours in Kirstenbosch alone and still didn't feel that was enough (but I'm a garden lover). Perhaps the best thing to do is to take the hop on, hop off double decker bus tour on either the red route (the main city sights and Table Mountain) or the blue one (a mini peninsula tour that goes to Kirstenbosch). The entire route is a little over two hours on the red one--I think it's the same on the blue but I didn't do that one. The tickets are good for 24 hours so you could take the whole thing and then return to the one or two things that really interested you. And then, if you have the energy, you can still go to Long Street in the evening.

You need a whole day (at least!) for Cape Point in my opinion.

But yes, it all depends on your interests. If you like the historical stuff, perhaps a Robben Island + township tour. If you like nature, spend the day at Cape Point. If you like wine, go to Stellenbosch/Franschhoek/Paarl and visit some wineries.

Dianne, agree that my suggestion makes for a long day with very short stops, but an early morning start from Cape point, just visiting the point and goodhope, from there to Boulders. Straight on the M4 and then M3 to Kirstenbosch for approx 1 - 1 1/2 hours and then finally Table mountain is possible, and if your'e up for a late night ? Long streets ready and waiting !

PoP yes fully agree with you, but how do you pick one thing to suggest without thinking you've left out the experiences that others may find most enjoyable ?

Fiona, whatever you choose to do ? I'm sure that you will enjoy your CT experience !

I'm exhausted just reading about it, Martin, but that's me. Or perhaps my age is showing?

I would either do, only cape point. or robben island / plus table mountain tram. Its a shame you dont have more time. If i absolutely had to choose, I would say robben, then table mountain, its pure capetown.

martraveller - I'd rather try to pick out something the OP would like to do but we haven't gotten any answers back...

Martraveller - I thought your idea was perfect! But, may miss out one thing (for me probably Kirstenbosh, as for me it couldnt be a priority if I only had one day.)

I would say Cape Point and Boulders in the morning, have an early lunch at the restaurant in Boulders. Then head into town and get the red route bus, which takes in table mountain and will give you lots of info on the history, I think they go to the District 6 Museum as well. That way you get quite a balance view of the place - a bit of history, peninsula beauty, wildife (penguins and baboons anyway!!) and beach.

Yes its a helluva lot to cram in! Again its all down to interests - OP? Helloo... OP?
