I assume that food must be accesible in terms of prices but does the same apply to acommodation?

I've read that acommodation prices tend to be slightly high than other countries such as kenya or tanzania, is it true?

How much do you pay for a spartan room (a bed, a mattress, a chair and shared bathroom)?

Cheers,

Prices vary depending on what you want. You will find that in the cities prices are much higher than in the country. Also the main tourist towns are more expensive than the small country towns. Your best bet would be to stay at backpackers - grab hold of a coast-to-coast, it lists all the backpackers in SA & further afield and lists most of the bed prices. In the cities Dorms range from R90-00 pp & singles R200-00. In the country Dorms R70-00pp & singles R150-00.

It depends on what you're used to paying...

I think the most important thing is to stay away from hotels...
