Looking for suggestions on how to spend 4 weeks in SA.
I would like to spend 1 week in different parts of the country.
I know there is lots to see and do in SA, so on this trip only 4 places. Don't what to rush around !
Able to take flights as mean of transport.
What parts do you suggest for a good mix of different areas ?
Also when is the best time to go, just before peak season are just after (what months).

Can you be more specific about the kinds of things you'd like to do? Activities etc...

Plan for just after peak - March/April/May are good months, especially in Cape Town.

A week in the Northern Cape, Kgalagadi, Lower Orange River and Namaqualand can be included if you have a spare week. Best is self-drive through the outback. Air-con makes anytime a good time.

  1. Western Cape - Cape Town, Winelands, coast, Cederberg Mts

    2. KwaZuluNatal - Umfolozi; St Lucia Wetlands; beaches; Drakensberg Mts; Battlefields

    3. Garden Route

    4. Kruger, Pilansberg, Gauteng, Cradle of Mankind, Apartheid Museum.

    Better make it 8 weeks.......

Ah...

At the very least one week along Route 62 (don't miss the Robertson wineries or any of the many activities in Oudtshoorn)

Kruger is well worth a trip. Same with spending a week in KwaZulu-Natal (with a at least a daytrip to Lesotho)

Will you have your own transportation?

If you look in my profile, I have a travel blog with a lot of SA stuff. I'm 2/3 done with writing about this year's trip (and 100% done with writing about last year's trip hah!) - also links to my photos on flickr on the right-hand toolbar.

Where are you flying into ? Where do you depart from ?

Would suggest following peterscots itinerary except reverse options 2 and 3. Then a single car rental could be beneficial as you would be driving east then north CT - PE - Durban - Kruger - Joburg
