hi there,
i'm austrian passport-holder, leaving to rwanda middle of february and there's a few questions, hope anyone can answer them:
1. i'm trying to apply for an online visa but as it seems i need an invitation letter. as i have friends there i don't have a hotel reservation (which should be sufficient i guess). does anybody know if i can just send an "invitation-letter" from my friends?
2. we want to go to burundi as well, as far as i know it should be fine if i apply for the visa in kigali, is that right?
3. is there any possibility to get a multiple visa upon arrival for rwanda or will i have to get a new one when i re-enter?
4. has anybody recently been to the DRC? is it okay to go there in a group or is it just a struggle?
5. and last: is it better to take euro or US dollar? in tanzania the changing rate for dollar was the same as for euro...
austria doesn't have an embassy neither for rwanda nor for burundi, i can't send my passport to the embassy in berlin as i'm leaving to beirut in 2 weeks...
thanks!

Get your Rwandan / Burundi visas in Kampala or at least the Rwandan and pick up the Burundi visa in Kigali.....as for DRC there are many conflicting reports but visas for DRC are issued to westerners in both Kampala and Kigali but it's at the discretion of the boarder immigration officials. The problem for most Europeans and other western countries is if there's a Congolese embassy in their country and they receive the DRC visa in either Uganda or Rwanda they will be refused entry......for Aussies and Kiwis due to having no Congolese mission there have been reports that on a good day they will except entry.......Good Luck

A short (3 days) Burundi visa you can get a the border. A longer one you need to apply at the embassy (or have it at the Airport). However, I was told at the land border that you can overstay the visa and just pay a fine FBu 20.000 per day but this has not been confirmed.

For Rwanda online application, just add anything there (a letter from yourself or similar), to my knowledge they are not interested in the invitation letter as such.

USD is better, it is the currency in the DRC and for bigger amounts also in Burundi.

Hi there,

I'm planning to visit Burundi for around 3 days. Do you know whether I can get a tourist visa at the airport in Bujumbura, and would I need to show any letters of invitation/etc to get the visa?

Thanks,
Chris
